Small Wins and Big Questions
Canva Printing and AI Legislation
Canva Updates Printing
Overall, I was disappointed in Canva Create yesterday. There was such a heavy focus on AI. Not just AI, but AI tools that Canva Education will not even have access to. But then, right at the very end, they slipped in something that honestly feels like a game changer for classrooms.
Printing.
Anyone who has spent time helping students print Canva projects knows the struggle. Download. Open. Fix formatting. Try again. Repeat.
Not anymore.
You can now print directly from Canva without downloading first. It prints straight from the screen, and it remembers your settings. Yes, really.
Control + P works too.
This is one of those small updates that is actually a huge quality-of-life improvement. The kind that saves minutes every class period, which adds up fast.
Oh happy days are here.

AI Legislation Nationwide
I went down a bit of a rabbit hole this week after noticing that Utah passed a law limiting screen time for elementary school students.
That led me to a site called multistate.us, which tracks legislation across the country. It is honestly overwhelming how much is happening right now. If you are trying to stay informed about AI and education policy, it is not easy.
What really caught my attention was something much closer to home.
There is legislation introduced in New York that could directly impact how we use AI in classrooms.
New York (A9190) would:
restrict AI use in classrooms to grade 9 and above
allow exceptions for diagnostics and special education interventions
still allow staff to use AI for planning and administrative tasks
This is only introduced at this point, but it is the kind of bill that is worth watching closely. A lot of us are actively figuring out what responsible, meaningful AI use looks like with students. Policies like this could shape that work in a big way. If you want to take a look yourself, here is the bill:
